Genuinely curious about account closures

I registered to play in a certain casino ( ill keep the name out of it at this stage I think) and after a couple of difficulties getting all the required T&C sent to me ( not all are accessible from the site and they were difficult to get to) so after a number of things didnt go as smoothly as it should have I decided to delete my account with this online casino. Stating all the reasons why I wanted my account closed. Now I have not long ago checked my emails and that casino responded to me with a lengthy email about self exclusion. Gambling addiction and it ended with the option to verify or deny my previous statement!!!! What??? Not once in any casino chat, forum, or live chat have I ever said I had a problem with gambling. Is it normal when you close your own account for whatever reason for the casino to then arbitrarily decide that closings your own accounts now constitutes self exclusion?

because it seems like this casino is being particularly difficult by suggesting that. My options are to self exclude or to leave the account open, which Seems to me like a security risk.

There are certain groups of casinos that do not do account closure, so they would suggest to use the self-exclusion method instead.

Yes, this is indeed a very tricky and risky method to use to close any account, due to seeable and unforeseeable circumstances that may arise out of the self-exclusion implications, which may not be applicable to the player at all in the first instance.

What I have done is NOT to use the self-exclusion method but to dump that casino into my deep freezer for keeps...never to play at it ever again! And yes, there are several of such casinos enjoying the eternal winter games in my deep freezer! Hahaha. 😁

Any casino that claims they can’t close an account, without it being a SE,is talking out their a@@@

Having said that, closure doesn’t mean much; the data etc is still sitting there and most will reopen it immediately (if basic closure). Said before, the only thing it really does it stop them processing your data. So in theory your data is secure-er. They’ll still keep a bulk of it for 6 or so years.

Reminds me of a related situation I experienced many years ago, except I didn't even request an account closure: just discovered one day I could no longer log in with my credentials. Never bothered to follow up as the casino wasn't a favourite of mine, just figured it had maybe banned my country and not bothered to inform me (it's happened before).

So I forgot all about it... until I received an email from the site out of the blue, asking if I'd be willing to participate in a university study about problem gambling as that's why I'd stopped playing there :shok: Meant to reply asking what they were on about but never got around to it.
