Hey there! I received the following sms a few days ago "due to south african regulations, as of 1 july 2018, all non-rsa online gambling transactions will be declined." - Can anyone provide some insites as to which regulations have changed and why? And what about yebo-casino? Is it legal now?

Hi MIkeMill and welcome to Askgamblers.

 

Please state which bank you using in SA? FNB, STD bank or Absa? I am sure it's not capitec.

 

There is still a big debate about legality of online gambling in South Africa. Some say it's legal and some say it's not... I work for a law firm and I always try and get the latest information, so for now I am safe.

 

Only issue is when getting huge about of cash via wire transfer, will raise a flag with Reserve Bank and SARS themselves.

 

Silversands and Springbok are local which should be okay.

 

Are you depositing directly or they declining deposits to E-wallets when selecting the use of funds for Gambling option?

Remember - things like this are only illegal until the government finds a way of taxing it :-p

Canada hasn't made any policy against online wagering.

 

I think we may be more lax than others because our winnings aren't taxable anyway, so really it's simply a matter of competition for our provincial casinos.. which are already starting to partner up with the big names in online gaming to be more competitive in the market.

Well i'm off to Brussel's to sort out the Brexit Fiasco.

 

My platform is a tad limited - it's no GDP, the metic system, VISA or Immigration issues but, rather, the removal of the EU Money Laundering Regulations from national legislation. If i can secure that, they can do what they like. Vammosh. 

 

We're not bad here in the UK - papers like the Guardian, and their friends, would like to ban all forms of gambling i think. Apparently we are all brain dead morons who, without the velvet glove of our upper class leaders, would see the proletariat descend into chaos.

 

You can see bits of interference chipping away though. That's why i found it weird that many avid gamblers were rejoicing at the restrictions being placed on those Fixed Odds Betting Terminals in your high street bookmakers but yet are/were happy to play BTG's with massive gamble features. If they're coming for your FOBT's, they're coming for your BTG's

If your media runs a similar course to ours, just because they say that the majority of people were in favour of the grand, sweeping changes and thankful that the government was there to protect them from the big bad... whatever... doesn't mean you'll be able to find too many reasonably intelligent, free thinking type people in your actual day to day life that agree with the sentiment. Oddly those you do come across who agree only seem to be able to vocalize the talking points of the day/week and tend to lack any actual knowledge/personal opinion to substantiate it..

 

I guess what I'm saying here is.. "we should probably just drink the koolaide.. the majority of people are in favour of the grand sweeping changes it helps enact and be thankful we had the government to protect us from the big bad critical thought"

Damn, that not looking good. Are they gonna ban casinos only or betting services like <snip> are in danger as well?  I mean, i have some cash there and don't wanna lose it. I would be a shame if it had happen.

No rules have changed ...

Online gambling is illegal in this country UNLESS the organization is licensed (and currently only bookmakers seem to have some type of license ... and a few other organizations like Lottostar)

Yeah Local online casinos are legit but international casinos illegal. However the issue is not you as a player getting in trouble, the international site should not be able to allow SA gamblers, but even though its Illegal, our government not doing anything about it.

If large sums comes into my account via bank transfer which does not happen often since I use E-wallet - I just specify its a Gift.

So all banks  FNB, ABSA, Nedbank and Capitec decline "Gambling Purpose' transactions to e-wallets or casinos directly(But works when its a locally based online casino like Silversands or Bookmakers). However Standard Bank still allow such deposits at any gambling avenue inlcuding e-wallets.

Wit that said and tighter restrictions - I rather deposit "Non Gambling" related funds to Neteller, and deposit to my skrill account using my Neteller balance and that convert it to gambling funds or when you send to someone as well.

90% of my play time now is in BTC  at Bitstarz, Bitcasino.io and others and I use Luno which is our local BTC exchange.

I get my money paid in minutes to my BTC wallet and if I withdraw my winnings, its my bank account the next morning unlike E-wallets which take up to 12 days for the winnings to be in your bank account.
