Qutting gambling - my experiences

Recommended Posts

Hi,

i am gambling now for a few years.

I started with a big win of 15.000,- Euro. Don't ask for the corresponding deposits ;-)

Until now i played in many online casinos and i have made a lot of experiences with different gaming providers like microgaming, playtech, netent and what so ever.

Yesterday i played again a netent slot. I hit there a bigger win. I have to say i play only for entertainment but i can now say it is no entertainment. It is a hard business for the casinos to increase their profit.

Coming back to my bigger win: What happened? After this in more than 500 spins no win occured. Absolutely nothing.

This happened not only one time this happened in nearly second session when i hit a bigger win.

The aim behind this is clear. As a gambler you think this can't be and so you go on. The same effect occurs: Your balance went to zero in minutes and the operators want you to make further deposits.

Next effect: You spend 100,- Euro and you lose them. Then you spend a further 100,- and then some winnings occur, so you climb up with your balance to nearly 200,-. So you have back your losses. More than 200,- will not happen; even when you play for hours. You think "hey it is my origin deposit. Give it one more try" But at one point the eating up phase starts again. The lovely zero comes back ;-)

I played thousands of sessions and this pattern you will find in every casino. This is a part of the RNG. I am sure because the aim is to use simple psychologig patterns to increase the profit.

This is so boring because it has nothing to do with random. It is a RNG, but i think these phases are part of the program.

I think every gambler made this experience.

I do not want make big winnings, i want to have entertainment. But i could see it is only a business for the operators. To deposit 500,- Euro and for this you get only a hour of entertainment is absolutely too heavy. And in the past this happened more often.

Sure in some rarely sessions there was a bigger winning of 500,- - 1000,- Euro. But for this you have to play days or you have really big luck.

When i see my deposits and my winnings it has became a too expensive hobby.

And if you be honest it is a big waste of time.

I reached now the point to quit gambling. This depends on some bad experiences in the last months. There were too many withdrawal issues. If you see all the complaints of other gamblers and pending periods of 2-3 days, i come to the conclusion not to be treated in that way anymore. If i spend money i expect to get my legitimate winnings fast. At one place i had to wait for a month, which is totally absurde.

They collect your deposits in seconds and then they delay the withdrawals. Unacceptable. But this an old story.

What i find extremly disturbing is the fact that some casinos totally disrepect your request of a final account closure, even when you mentioned that it should not be possible to reopen it. They let you reopen the account after a few hours of a closure. Again and again (I have placed now a complaint against such a casino)

"We believe in responsible gaming?" It should be written: "We believe in getting much money as possible!"

Note: i do not have a problem with losses, but with the whole online gambling system. The above mentioned patterns are too obvious when you play for a longer time.

I will quit now until there is a change.

But i think this will not happen, because the operators would not earn as much money they do now with pending periods or whatsoever.

It's only my opinion and i wanted to share it with other gambler. Please do not trying to convince me from everything is perfect and i only have to find a very good casino. I know them nearly all ;-)

It is only a report of my experiences.

Sometimes games can be cold, not a single bonus round was triggered in 500 spins. That is possible, I've been there too and when that happened, I simply stop playing, leave my house and forget all about it because keep playing won't help at all. I learned my lesson alright :D

If you can quit gambling then I'd advise you to stay that way ;)

Gambling is for some people an addiction. What triggered this addiction? Beginners luck. These two words are far from good. Some people are more fragile than the other and those people will most likely addicted to gambling.

Know your limit. Know when to stop, even if you're winning. I know it could be difficult at first but you'll use to it if you do it more often.

The thing is you can deposit 500 as you say and have an hour of play? I can deposit £20 and get the same play time or even more, no one session is the same.

From the amount of your deposits you've mentioned which all seem to be pretty high I'm guessing you're betting high too but if it's come to the point where it's nt enjoyable to you, you are making the right move in stopping.

We have a member here who also used to be similiar, now he has changed to making low deposits and is a much happier person and still seems to be doing very well.

Have you ever thought of changing the way you play?

Hi cocopop,

i do not betting high permanently; only if i want to give it a try with a bigger balance. But high bet means 2,- per/ spin. I can also play with 0.10 / spin for hours. But the pattern i mentioned are independent on the height of the wagers.

When i started playing a few years ago, i did the mistake to bet high consistently. But i recognized very fast, this is not a good idea ;-)

The whole experiences i did in the last time were too heavy.

In years i had no complaints to place but in the last months there were so many issues with casinos, which blew my fun in gambling away. E.g. at a casino there were so many software glitches so that i have lost nearly 1000,- Euro in failure games. Although i had screenshots and very good evidences for that, i was not refunded. A complaint here was unresolved and the regulator did nothing. That was like a joke.

All in all leaded me to my deceision to quit.

I have no problem with losses and i can fortunately control my wagers and i know when it is time to stop. But gambling is based on a trustful relationship. Maybe i have chosen the wrong places in the past.

But this is one reason of many.

And to be serious there are a lot of more facilities to spend your time with, where you become much more for your money and for your life ;-)

So no worries, i am still a happy one :-)

That's life of gambling mate. We all have different experience and different perspective. There are times that I felt like I want to give up playing because of financial indiscipline and times when I deposit and won then I won't again. Things like a bit fuzzy when we make a choice even if the gambling system that you criticize is not perfect still many players want it and play it and I will say that there's no perfect system of playing I hope that you're aware to that fact.

I don't know on how I will say that it's not fair when I won and when I lose. We tend to favor things when it favors us.

Just when I thought that there are many cons playing online casinos I knew that I can handle it and I can discipline myself. This depends on us whether we become the victim or the victor.

I hope that this keeps you up mate.

I know the exact cycle you are speaking of. It's almost a joke because you can tell someone the moment it turns south what's gonna happen.

I'd be bsing you if I said I have full responsibility when I gamble. ***** last month I got the money from a wreck to get my car fixed and in days I lost the entire 4,000 dollars! Luckily I hit big $2,900 just before it was completely gone. I was so mad with myself and upset.

That said you have given the reason for your bad luck either knowingly or unknowingly. If you deposit lose, deposit lose, deposit lose, then break back even or close... that was the time to cash out for that day. But due to"most" gamblers problem your/my addictive personality told you to keep playing instead of being responsible. Honestly that's yours/my fault. Not the casino or online gaming site.

Now winning $2k to a b.s. casino like raging bull and them not paying is horrible. I just dealt with this and it still infuriates to even think about. But I learned a valuable lesson and that check, recheck, and check again BEFORE EVER DEPOSITING to any online casino. Call and make sure they are easily phone accessible, make sure they respond to emails, slowly deposit small amounts instead of just jumping in and throwing money at what could be a fraudulent casino or a sinking casino.

WE live and learn and damn learning is always the hard way.

Hope life is treating you all well AND STAY HAPPY!

Yes! I agree Switches1 at first it's hard to accept the fact that you lost everything but when you move on and finally accept it things gonna get better and the next time you give it a hand just make sure that "you" as a player apply the effect of that learning!  ;)

But as you said we're not perfect and we tempt to bet and lose because of lack control.  -_-

What you have written sounds like very typical player experiences, and so much of it is not acceptable of course - withdrawals SHOULD be paid as quickly as possible, by every casino - I respect they have security concerns that apply only to withdrawals, so accept that they cannot always be immediate like a deposit is - but some casinos do put players on a "whitelist", should they be verified already, playing with deposited funds (not a bonus), and the withdrawal is under a certain amount, allowing withdrawals to be immediate or close to it. Why can't this be adopted by all casinos?

And "responsible gaming" measures, sure, those are often hit and miss too. It's not acceptable and is something the UKGC sought to clean up, in my country at least, but I still know of sites that supposedly "still implementing" some of the most important controls such as deposit limits and the like.... Stan James for example, where I used to play quite regularly, I can't find any such controls on their site and whilst support say they are able to put such limitations on your account when you contact them via live chat, I think it's thoroughly unacceptable that such a large company hasn't spent the money to have a couple of extra pages added to their website.

I won't even get into whether the games are fair, as it's been discussed a billion times before now without any kind of consensus being reached... but for sure, if you feel it is time for you personally to give it a break then DO IT. I've just spent over a year having a break from regular online gaming and I feel all the better for it, and am now spinning a few slots again and enjoying the experience. If I start to feel I am getting a bad deal again then I will stop playing once more. It's the only rational and logical thing to do!

Appreciated, there is no really consensus why casinos do it and it needs process that takes a long time to complete and that's the reality. As for your experience I'm really glad that you manage to control yourself because it's really hard to do it as based on my experience but that not stop me to play casino because I managed to control myself and this made possible by the help of my loved ones and friends.  ;)

Farewell then...

Just a friendly advice on the way out though... Next time when you throw accusations or declare demands, make sure to be honest and fair with yourself on the first place and the then with the business you were trying to blackmail!  :nea:

This is a very honest good bye. Dissapointing things happen in every aspect in our lifes and they show our path step by step as other feelings also do.

The decision is already made; so at the start you will feel withdrawal syndrome, just resist the urge to play for one month and after that you won't need to play at casinos anymore, at least this way happened to me when I stopped smoking.

Wish you the best ;)

Yes, and I think if I didn't control myself from disciplining my expenses prior to my deposits to the online casinos I quit years ago. Controlling yourself is the hardest part of playing online casinos.

I agree man, it has not sense to play at casinos if you are not having fun, and if you are always losing more money each time, it hardly would be fun.

What was that about ? I found him to be honest and was obviously being straight forward towards his experience in gambling. I have to say I kind of agree with the pattern he's noticed and am sure many have as well. I still can't see the "accusations" nor the "demands" or even worse, the "blackmail". I"m dumbstruck by your comment especially from a moderator. Can you elaborate on the above ? I just don't see a reason to basically tell a member, "don't let the door hit you in the rear on the way out.".

Have absolutely no intentions explaining myself, especially to someone who's not directly involved with the discussed matter, however maybe you should try reading the original poster's complaint yourself... The bottom line is the complainant was definitely NOT as honest as claimed to be and this is something we certainly do NOT tolerate, especially considering the  amount of efforts and time we invested to help that player.

I got it once I read through the original posts. I see your point. I realize I was not directly involved in the original discussed matter but when reading the reply, without knowing the background, I found the response sounded a little harsh since it is what most readers will read not knowing the background. Sorry for referring to you as a moderator as well. Was not meant to be-little in any way. Your posts are well written.
