Though the name of Journey of the Sun doesn’t suggest it but this product has an ancient Egypt theme which is a popular target for creators but regarding to the appearance I must say this is not the best made one. It wouldn’t be a problem that it has a minimal displaying scheme (though these art rich ages would give some opportunity to be creative) but I think not the proper pictorial elements were chosen to illustrate it and the graphical work also hasn’t good quality. We can see an ancient temple as the border of the reel area with columns and little decorations but they’re not too detailed or well-made and I find the font style of the name of the slot which is visible on the top of the screen is very unfitting both to the theme and the screen too. Behind the reels there’s a darkened wall made of stone which also doesn’t help the overall visual experience while the symbols are badly drawn, ugly and a little bit one-schemed as all of the main symbols illustrate only the famous Bastet cat. Overall, I don’t really like this kind of appearance and I think it was a mistake using such pictorial solutions for this slot.
Unfortunately, here at this 25-payline slot the not too impressive interface comes hand in hand with an even less impressive game features and qualities. The top line win with 5 Wild symbols on an active payline pays only 2000 times of bet what I consider not too great and when this figure works in replacing function it can double all the wins. 3 or more special Journey of the Sun icon (Scatter) can reward instant cash prize up to 50 times of total bet but more importantly it triggers the free spin feature which is real only one part of the game that provide some real good qualities.
This side game is not a common one and practically similar to some very old board games. We are guided to a table where are 30 spots and we have to choose one piece from the light places to determine the number of free spins then this number that was revealed determines how many moves will be made on the second board to determine the multiplier value. This is an interesting little game segment before the actual free spins and sometimes it can really open-handed and my best conditions I could reach here was 20 free games with x5 multiplier. Also the best result at free spins realized with these values when I could collect around €75 at the end of the side game.
Honestly, this is the only game segment that saves this whole game for me and this is the only reason why I play here some rounds once in a blue moon because other than that it’s a bad game especially if I consider this is a Microgaming product. I can’t quite understand how they could release this slot in this format. Sometimes it really seems to me just a first scratch of a slot game which is in the first phase of the working process and million miles away of being a complete product. But if I don’t see the displaying attribute the game qualities are still massive disappointment for me (excluding the free spin extra) and definitely don’t bring to the table the well-known Microgaming qualities.
