Since we're speaking about variety here, I can't resist not to ask - How do you recognise high, medium and low variance slots? Is there an obvious way or you discover it by playing or it goes together in package with game introduction (a description you get from provider)?

Thanks :)

You can usually spot this by looking at the max possible win pr spin. Games with 200-500 x bet maxwins is low variance.  500-1500x usually medium variance. If a game is capable of 2500x + its usually high to very high variance. Then there is also something called "Hit frequency" this is how often the games pay a win on average.

Fore example i belive i read on a spreadsheet about netent games that DOA has a hit frequency of 1/3. That means on average every 3 spin should produce a winning combination.

So a game thats high variance but has a high hit frequency(DOA fore example) might give you more playtime than a game thats low variance and has a very low hit frequency. (The latter seams to be the new trend fore net ent games.)

Wish master is another example. Its very high variance and has a very low hit frequency(dont know the numbers, but you can tell by the amount of dead spins on average) so this game is more likley to bust you out quick.

Im not really sure whats the math behind this and why they choose different hit frequencys. A game thats very high variance and has a very low hit frequency might be very frustrating to play most of the time(The wish master, Wonky Wabbits) So i dont really understand why they chose this as it might discourage players to play the game again if they have poor results the first time around.

If you play slots fore entertainment only i would play medium variance games(Low variance is no point as you will never get ahead). If you play fore big wins i would choose high variance games. You might hit a good streak on medium variance games also. But the huge single wins are in the high variance maschines.

If you play medium variance games only i would bounce from slot to slot when it goes "cold" these cold and hot streaks are much more noticeable on low/medium variance games IMO.

PS. My suggestions on how to play are just my personal opinions and people should play however they feel like themselves.

Thank you so much, luckyloser! You should have slots diploma and you obviously graduated DOA :)

Dead spins = spins with no winnings?

Hehe thanks  ;)  Yes, by "Dead spins" i mean spins with no win at all, 0 paying.

But the one thing i find stange about all slots. Is even taking all this in to account if it was truly random, then why does almost every game always go completely dead after a big win? What i mean by dead is suddenly most spins pay 0 or lower than stake.

Also yesterday i found the absolute worst slot game of all time:

"Joker Millions" By Yggdrasil. I lost 100 on 0.75 bets with a RTP of under 10%.. Thats outragous lol. Tried it again today and there is barley any wins. I counted 60!!! spins with no price in a row. It was so bad i had to ask the support in the casino if it was something wrong with the game.

These kind of games makes me wonder and severly question "randomness" how can one play 130 spins and have 120 losing spins... Should really not be possible.

Ah that's sad, I thought Yggdrasil has some potential. I liked some of their games, especially Cyrus the virus.

I must agree, from my personal experience, that some games stop giving me anything even if I hit free spins or bonus game, like they are thinking - "This was enough for you, now dry period, but I'll give you something when you start panic again and so on". That's also my experience with Immortal Romance. I don't know how this games used to be, but I played it a couple of times and I'm not so impressed, especially with free spins rounds, which gave me smaller and smaller winnings. :(

Yes, haha i have the same toughts when i play aswell. As the casino is saying "enough, now its time to lose". And then its the very rare occation where  every game pays out and the balance just keeps climbing. Its usually dips allitle down and then climbs again, the key is to know when it stopps.

hmmm. if DOA has a hit frequency of 1/3, i just start thinking to try it on higher stakes sometimes. but if you have real bad luck..could you have  0/3 ?

Actually i read the sheet today. Its 30%, so allitle less than 1/3. 30% of all spins on average should be a winning spin. But this can also be an amount less than the amount the spin cost. And this is not definit, you can have 10 spins in a row with wins or losses.

The sheet i saw was a PDF from the Netent webiste, but it seams to have been removed. But found a similar sheet on another website, dont know how accurate it is since i can spot some wrong numbers in the maxwin collum:

edit: gets all funky when i try to copy paste..

Valdes, im not sure if im allowed to post the link or not? Can you remove the link and help me copy paste the stats that are on the page if im not allowed to paste the link? When i copy it, it shows correctly in the preview of the post but when i submit it gets all weird.

Nope, I'm afraid you are not allowed to post links from websites without asking for specific permission.

You can however make a list of your own, but I'm afraid the forum software does not support tables...

Ok so i have put together some info on the most popular Net Ent games and the newer ones and low variance ones to compare.

Just a side note. The variance/volatility i state on the games are just my estimates, i could not find any info about this

So here we go:

Creature from the black lagoon

Hit Frequency: 27,9% RTP 96,5% Maxwin: 750x pr spin in bonus round Volatility: High

Dead or Alive

Hit Frequency: 30%RTP: 96% Maxwin: 49 000x stake. Volatility: Very high

Gonzoes Quest

Hit frequency: 41,1% RTP: 96% Maxwin: 1875 x stake pr spin in bonus round Volatility: High

Jack and the beanstalk

Hit frequency: 34,4% RTP: 96,3% Maxwin: 3000x stake pr spin in bonus round Volatility: Very high

Jackpot 6000

Hit frequency: 9,6% RTP: 98,9 (with optimal strategy) Maxwin: 600x bet Volatility: High

Piggy Riches

Hit frequency: 40,9% RTP: 96,4 Maxwin: 2400x stake pr spin in bonus round Volatility: High

The wish master

Hit frequency: 38,2% RTP: 96,6% Maxwin: 4500x stake Volatility: Very high

Wild Water

Hit frequency: 24,8% RTP: 96,4% Maxwin: 2000x bet pr spin in bonus round Volatility: High

Twin Spin

Hit Frequency: 27,8 RTP: 96,4% Maxwin: 1080x stake Volatility: Medium

Stickers

Hit Frequency: 28,36% RTP: 96,69% Maxwin: 400x stake Volatility: Low

Starburst

Hit Frequency: 22,7% RTP: 96,1% Maxwin: 500x stake Volatility: Low

Spinata Grande

Hit Frequency: 25,15% RTP: 96,84% Maxwin: 600x stake Volatility: Low

Space Wars

Hit Frequency: 16,4% RTP: 96,8% Maxwin: 1000x stake Volatility: Medium/High(But not worth it because of low maxwin)

Neon Staxx

Hit Frequency: 27,63% RTP: 96,9% Maxwin: 400x stake Volatility: Low

Dracula

Hit Frequency: 25,04 RTP: 96,6% Maxwin: 400x stake Volatility: Very low/Low

Dazzle me

Hit Frequency:19% RTP: 96,9% Maxwin: Not sure Volatility: ???

I can see i was wrong in some assumtions. Wish master actually has a very high hit frequency and wild waters seams to be a high variance game hmmm..

But you can clearly see the trend with Net Ents newer games:Low hit frequency and low maxwins.. Hence the feel of low variance prices but high variance gameplay.

DOA is definitely number 1 from NetEnt software with this huge maxwin possibility/probability. i wonder if anyone know any other slot with this kind of paylines and chances for HUGE winings? I mean besides jackpots slots. I wonder if any software will release in the future this kind of slot like DOA, it will become my 2nd favorite game ;)

Cazino Zeppelin by Yggdrasil can also provide 2000x bet pr spin. There are 20 lines and sticky wilds, each wildline pays 100x bet (DOA pays 333x)

Scatters pay 3=10 freespins 4= 15 freespins 5= 20 freespins and if you have any wilds on the reels when it trigger they transfer to the bonus round so it has HUGE potential.

You can fore example get 10 freespins that starts with 4 wilds, 15 freespins that starts with 3 wilds, or 20 freespins that starts with 2 wilds.

I have gotten a "wildline" or two on this game 4 times or so.. It usually pays allitle less than a wildline on DOA. DOA seams to pay on average 2500-3500, this game usually 1500-2000x but its way easier to get a wildline on this game than on DOA. And If you hit the best possible outcome i think it can produce a maxwin like DOA maybe even more.

And yes i agree that there are very few games that are worth risking money on.

I only play DOA,Creature from the black lagoone, Gonzo, Jack, wish master and twin spin. I might do a few spins on other Netent games if im up a bit. But all the other games are simply not worth the risk as the returns are so low.

If i play different games i switch games after big wins and so on. Cannot keep playing on a low variance game as it will drain the bankroll without any huge win.

If you have not tried Cazino Zeppelin you should try it. Its actually more fun than DOA. But it can be very volatile and eats money very fast if its in a bad mood.

From a casino operator point of view this is fairly simple. You have big winners regularly. Just keep track of it and it becomes very obvious. As a player you can also "feel it" somehow. I am roughly agreeing with luckyloosers list. There are a few I have different but in general it is pretty good information.

Kind regards,

Mike

It is also illegal under the rules of the "Control Board" to hard-coding, ie, program the "near miss" results, that is, where you see that you "almost" could win a bonus round, or a large profit, etc. This, my friends, they solve through the free placement of gaming symbols on the virtual reels.

I know things can get taken out of context when using Google Translation. But what exactly is this "Control Board" the above is speaking off? I suppose that's referring to some gaming commission? I know studies have shown that near miss results mainly have an effect on gambling addicts who keep on trying even harder when that happens. Like TwinSpin for instance, how can that game be completely random with all that teasing and near miss after near miss....

It's clearly programmed by NetEnt to produce such results. So from that perspective, no, I don't believe all slots are completely random. Though I do believe the RTP is as advertised, but it might take millions of spins to even get there.

Luckyloser...how do you pronounce the name YGGDRASIL?

My thinking is YAK-Drasil...that's how their games can be...or is it Egg-drasil? :p

I've played Cazino Zeppelin several times already and the game is NOWHERE as good or as exciting as Dead Or Alive! ^_^

I have yet to get a good payout from the game. The best I got was 97x bet with Wilds on 4 reels. The 5th didn't come...dang!

4 Wilds with 20 paylines...and cannot even get a 100x bet win? Not good at all! :(

Yeah...that's how slots work!

Its either very bad, or good lol. Latley its been very bad to me aswell. Its a game where i usuall do 100 spins or so and then judge its mood from there.

But i have had allot of 600-1000x bet wins without 5 wilds on a line. And wildline 3 times on it. But it can go allot of spins between each bonus round.

DOA has been extremley poor to me latley tough, its so awfull that its hard to belive its all random.. All bonus rounds pay 10-20x bet. Yesterday i had a  crapp session in a casino. Played with a bonus and it started out good.

Got a 1000x bet win on 300 shields. And then like someone flipped the switch on me my balance goes from 600 euros to 200 before i get any bonus rounds on any game(played 10 or so games) on 1 euro bets. Played DOA and had 3!!!! bonus rounds in a row without a wild!!!! this is a new record for me. Hard to belive in randomness when the games goes that cold.

In that particular casino i had lost over 3K cashed out 2K, then lost back all the 2K. So im down almost 3K in this casino, and it seams i cannot win there at all,its so frustrating.

It is pronounced Yg-Drasil. In Northern Mythology it is the "world tree" that spans through the underworld, the "regular world" and the heavens. You can clearly hear where these guys are from :)

The Y has the same sound as Cartman uses when he pronounces "School" (Schyyyyyyyyl) or "Cool" (Cyyyyyyl) :)

Funny enough, talking about DoA being cold, a friend of mine hit his biggest coin-win with one spil (or feature game) a few days ago on DoA. 45.000 coins. And he was complaining like never before because it was a lower bet than his usual bet size. He even had a line of wilds after just 4 spins and he had the nerve to complain about the fact that no more wilds came after he hit that line of wilds. Gamblers can be hard to satisfy :)

Same as me and my last win.. just one more wild would have made it a 10 000x bet win instead of a 3000x + win. Also had about 6 or so spins to get the last wild.. Nice win but as you say we are never happy before we hit the absoulte best possible  :D

Hahaha...thanks for the pronunciation tip there, Mike (hope the name is right ;) ) but I still CANNOT figure out how that name should sound like! To me, 'yyyyyy' would sound like 'eeeee', but as you said it should sound like in schyyyyyyl...I figure that makes it something like oooog-drasil?:D

Does it matter? No it doesn't...but it irritates me when I don't know how to pronounce it correctly! :p
